Magickal Oils of Indonesian Shamanism Part 2
NOTE: The following description of magical oils contains foreign words and phrases (Javanese/Arabic/Indonesian) – they have not been translated in order to properly identify the oils and the spells/prayers associated with them.
Istanbul oil is a more common type of magic and is readily sold in Arab communities across Indonesia, especially worn by Islamic teachers. It comes in different grades, the good grades have a very pungent but fragrant smell. Once smelled it is almost never forgotten. It remains a lasting memory. The smell is very persistent, sometimes lingering on a person for days, and some say it can be smelled from 20 feet away – though that may be a bit of an exaggeration. Because of its spiciness, not many people identify with it, saying it makes people dizzy.
Minyak Istanbul, although used as a common perfume among educators of Islam, was also used by shamans as a potent oil for romantic, sexual attraction and charm purposes. When one’s personal energy and thought-form are empowered, anyone within range of the scent will not only look in our direction, but feel drawn and eager to connect with us. The opposite sex finds us pretty or good looking. Pure Istanbul oil is hard to come by and most of the products sold in the market are diluted and mixed with other oils.
The oil can be blessed with the following spells to attract specific people:
“Ingsun matek ajiku sibayang-bayang rasa
“Aji minyak istanbul singing kramat pengasihan
“Siapa lihat dia terpikat dan turut terpikat
“Siang kharisma nabi Yusuf as ada di wajahku
“Allahuma ya Allah” 7x
“Ya Muhammad” 3x
“Inkanat ila syaihatan wahidatan fa idzahum Jamiul ladaina muhdhorun” 7x
“Sing aku pantek si (the name of the person you want to attract) datang padaku haqqul yakin.”
(Si)-Nyong-nyong is one of Dayak’s many miraculous essential oils. This minyak originated from the Iban tribe. This is a rare miraculous love oil that is used primarily by the natives of Kalimantan to keep their spouses faithful, although it is also used by both men and women for other matters related to the heart.
It is said that men under the influence of this oil will never commit adultery, even under the wildest temptations that fairer sexes can throw at them. If a man succumbs to temptation and temptation, he finds himself incapacitated and unable to perform the ritual of coitus. Strangely enough, while powerless to other women, the body functions normally when it comes to fulfilling its sexual obligations to one’s own legal wife.
Nyong-nyong is made through an intricate ritual process that is kept secret by the oil’s producers. It is usually made on the birthday of a tribal chieftain with magical powers. According to sources, on this special day, people forcefully hang enchanted bottles on a certain banyan tree species for 7 days and 7 nights, after which the bottles are magically filled with a viscous liquid, which is called Nyong- nyong. The ritual isn’t always successful, which is why it’s rare.
Nyong-nyong can be applied in a variety of ways, one way is to have it ingested by an unsuspecting subject. A few drops in the subject’s drink were enough to make him refuse the approach of other women. The effects of the oil may only last for a few weeks or months, during which time the enchanter repeats the process to maintain the status quo.
In general, Dayak’s many love oils can be used to influence another person using the following rituals:
Take some dirt or dirt from the subject’s footprint, wrap it in a white cloth, and put a few drops of love oil on the bag. When you’re done, place a bundle of soil under your pillow. The subject should then be visualized in an appropriate manner while calling his or her name at least three times. At the same time, the pillow should be turned and beaten repeatedly.
Although difficult to obtain, it can be obtained by those looking for Nyong-nyong oil. Minyak Nyong-nyong may be sold by some perfume dealers, peddlers and business psychologists, although the authenticity of the oils offered is questionable.
Minyak Air-Mata Duyung
The oil is the ocular secretion or tears of a marine mammal known locally as dugong (manatee) or “duyung” in Indonesia. The creature sheds tears to lubricate its eyes. The duyung has long been considered a mythical mermaid, related to the Greek “siren”; however, the latter is often called “putri-duyung” by Indonesian folklorists, as distinct from “ikan-duyung” or dugong. Its scientific classification is as follows:
Family: Pugongidae in the order Manatee.
Classification: Dugong dugong.
The gentle and harmless dugong sheds these “crocodile tears” when inadvertently caught in a fishing net, perhaps out of the pain of struggling. Most fishermen carefully wipe the tears off the dugong with cotton swabs before releasing it back into the sea. The liquid in the cotton is then pressed into vials.
Dugong’s oil or ocular secretion has a wonderful but light smell, is revered for its magical powers of attracting mates, and is usually used alone or mixed with other natural wonder oils with high pheromone content. From the appearance, “minyak air-mata duyung” is as clear as a stream. Due to its scarcity, it is very expensive.
Minyak Bulus is extracted from the fat of freshwater turtles and used as an active ingredient to increase the size of sexual organs such as breasts and penis. It has a thick yellowish appearance. Be cautious when purchasing this oil as there are many fakes on the market. To use this oil, simply rub it over and massage your breasts or penis. To the best of our knowledge, no scientific research has been conducted on the benefits of Bulus Oil, but generations of use of this oil have attested to its amazing properties.
Minyak Apel Jin
Apel Jin oil is often used by shamans and those involved in Islamic mysticism in Indonesia to facilitate connection during spiritual invocation and awakening ceremonies. This oil has a black appearance. The thicker form of this oil looks like tar and can be burned like incense on glowing embers. Apel-Jin is primarily used to summon regional or house spirits or those entities belonging to the lower astral planes. Its ingredients are highly classified, but some say it contains products derived from livestock or farm animals. Apel-Jin comes in various grades and was originally packaged in apple-shaped brass containers – hence the name.
Lintah means “leech”. Minyak Lintah thus translates as “leech oil”. This oil, like minyak bulus, is used to increase penis size in men, and many have attested to its efficacy. This oil has a black appearance and is obtained from leeches prepared in a secret way. The method of application is similar to Minyak Bulus.
Minyak Kesambi and Minyak Banyu Urip
“Banyu Urip” and Kesambi oil are the product names offered by its skilled producers. These oils are extracted from the sap of certain trees and then given magical powers. The user only needs to consume the potion, and the power will start to take effect in his body. The advantages of Banyu Urip oil are as follows: Strong bones; It enhances invulnerability to sharp weapons; It causes quick healing of wounds; It strengthens the skin; It provides magical protection from negative entities and forces; siddhi’ or gives power to one’s words; it increases spiritual sensitivity etc. Kesambi Oil is more powerful than Banyu Urip – in addition to being invulnerable to sharp weapons, it also makes humans invulnerable to bullets. Consuming 7 bottles of any of these oils will produce long lasting permanent results.
Among Pencak Silat martial artists in Java, Indonesia, Cimande (pronounced: Chee-Mun-Day) oil was known for its invulnerability and ability to help fractures, bruises, wounds, muscles heal. Strained, sprained ligaments, etc. The physical formulation and appearance of Cimande oils may vary between shaman producers, but the magical powers that permeate them under the authority of those producers are the same. Some components of Cimande oil are scarce and not readily available; therefore, at times, producers of Cimande oil are forced to take what is available and use the best substitutes – which results in even one raw material from the same producer being compared with another. The appearance of one raw material is also different. There is a lot of this Cimande oil for sale on the traditional market, but not all are genuine – most are diluted by dealers to make more profit, so you have to be careful when buying. Resellers’ cuts in oil products have been greatly stimulated by producers.
There are basically two types of Cimande oils – although more are said to exist. These two types of oils may have different appearances and are often even similar; however, their difference lies in their purpose, not their appearance. The first is the regular Cimande “balur” oil used in massage and in cases of bruises and minor injuries. The second helps heal broken bones and works for major muscle injuries. It also increases the user’s invulnerability to sharp weapons and punches. Some Cimande-oils can be ingested to heal the organs. Depending on the ingredients used, Cimande-oils can have a strong sweet-sour smell.
Cimande-oil is highly praised by those in martial arts and contact sports.
Myak Pony Basawa
One of the magic oils used in Islamic mystical practices in Indonesia is Ponibasawa Oil. This oil is especially used to discover known treasures hidden in certain locations, or to manifest money, gold and jewels through mystical rituals. Genuine Ponibasawa oil has been sanctified with the verses of the Quran and Divine Names – as recited by the spiritual experts and the entire “choir” of their students. The actual power of the ponibasawa lies in the khodams or Qur’anic verses and holy names of angelic servants anchored in the oil, especially represented by the needles immersed in it. During mystical ceremonies, the oil also releases enormous amounts of energy as it evaporates, which provides the khodams in the oil with the energy they need to perform their appointed tasks. Many anomalies have been noted with ponibasawa oil or its variants, for example, when a vial of oil is placed in a glass of water, it causes the water to evaporate at a very rapid rate. It is claimed that khodams of ponibasawa oil do not like alcohol, so the latter shatters into pieces when brought near an alcoholic beverage bottle.
The oil is often used with high-grade “Buhur” or incense powders during treasure hunts or rituals to manifest money or gold from the ether. Recite certain prayers and mantras to activate the power and power associated with the oil.
There are many ponibasawa oils sold in the traditional market, but not all of them are genuine and most of them are fake as they are not endowed with mystical powers. The real one is very expensive and rare, supposedly from Turkey. Ponibasawa oil comes in a variety of colors and comes in airtight vials in larger glass tubes. The number of sealed vials may vary from one to three – or even more. Each sealed vial contains a variable number of needles—the more needles they contain, the more potent the oil—although some variations of ponibasawa oil do not contain any needles.
