FIRST: STOP PLAYING EVERY RACE!

It doesn’t matter what your skill level is. It doesn’t matter which method you use. If you use software or if you scratch a program with a pen, this tip will help you start losing LESS and start winning MORE right away!

When you play each race, your advantage (or disadvantage) changes with each race. You split your bankroll between races where you may have a big lead and races where you may have ZERO lead. STOP!

For example, let’s say you have a gaming budget of $100. On an average 15 race card that gives you $6.66 per race. My experience is that you will rarely be able to get an advantage in more than 2 or 3 races per map. That’s my average and I’m VERY GOOD at what I do. So let’s assume you have almost ZERO chance in 12 of those races (maybe more, but I’m going to be generous in this example and assume you have an advantage in 3 races). So you have 3 races where you are actually ahead. These are the races where you have a huge advantage over the winner. And you also have great prospects for some secondary runners that will allow you to play an exacta or trifecta at a reasonable price. Let’s compare the possible result.

So you will encounter a race with a monster key dog. You really want to play the trifecta and have a ton of cash in your pocket!! There is one problem with this race. It is a route race and the 4 other greyhounds in this race have never run on the route. So you try your best to figure out how these 4 greyhounds will run in a race at this new distance. You work your game and your key wins by a mile! Excellent! But you didn’t have the trifecta. It’s not even close. Why? You played a race that you didn’t have enough information about to make a good decision. STOP DOING THIS!

FIVE: PLAY RACES ONLY WHEN YOU KNOW THE WINNER

Every time I tell a player that, they laugh at me. “If I knew who the winners would be without a shadow of a doubt, I’d be rich!” Obviously you can’t know with 100% certainty that the Greyhound will win. But you CAN know if you have a likely winner. And you should play that winner.

Some players look at the race and their logic goes something like this…

IF 1 breaks it could win. IF 8 hits the rail he could win. IF 5 falls behind by 1 before the turn, they will pass in the section and win. SO you should play 185 on top with blah blah blah. THEY do NOT know which dog will win in this scenario! They shouldn’t be playing this race.

SIX: KEEP RECORDS… ALWAYS

How much money did you lose playing greyhounds last year? How much did you win? You do not know?

AND TO.

And every player who wins knows EXACTLY how much they won or lost last week, last month, last year and 5 years ago.

Without a record you CANNOT know if you are getting better, worse or the same.

Document every race you play in a table. Document how you played, for how much and what the score was. Do this every time you play.

The ONLY way you’ll know what works for you and what doesn’t is to have a record.

SEVEN: PLAY THERE TO GET DISCOUNTS

There are several places to play greyhounds online. Some of them give you a rebate on every dollar you bet. Some of them don’t. In fact, the largest online ADW site gives you nothing for your business.

I get 14% of every dollar I bet! They deposit it directly into my account the next day… every day.

If I have a month where I have a 60% ROI on my bets… that’s actually a 74% ROI because of rebates.

If you’re a paid player… you might actually be a winning player. Just by paying your bets, you could actually earn 14% on your action. That’s better than any CD rate you’ll get by putting money in the bank.

EIGHT: DO NOT SEEK LOSSES

So you’ve lost all your money by race 12. But if you deposit another $50 or go to the ATM at the track and get another $40, you can bet on race 14 and WIN!

WRONG!

You lost today. You played races where you had the best advantage because you had a plan (remember tip #2?)

If you have a plan and you’re broke today, stop. Your day is over. The only thing chasing losses will do is dig yourself a deeper hole to climb out of. Keep the hole shallow. That’s your best shot at winning.

NINE: STOP LYING TO YOURSELF

Every gambler (myself included) has said this: “I broke even.” When I first started gambling, it seems I broke even every week, every year for about 5 years. The truth is, when I look back and try to add up my actual results, I’ve lost tens of thousands of dollars.

If you’re a winning player but have a spouse who doesn’t understand variations and swings, then it might be okay to tell him/her you’re quitting even just to keep the peace. But when you convince yourself that you’re always breaking, even then you’re cheating yourself out of reality. This reality will push you to improve, learn more, study, work harder and become determined to win.

I attribute my success only to determination. Over the years I have worked with many people to help them become winners. The main thing they need to understand is that you cannot become a winning player in one week. Sorry! That won’t happen.

The “best” of all takes work. And becoming a successful gambler takes a lot more than most professions. I’m telling you to find a real winning player to help mentor you. It will save you a lot of money, time and aggravation in the long run.
